A Huntington Station neighbor who builds the tools himself.
Dan Devine is a Long Island–based civic entrepreneur, organizer, and author who has spent his career connecting citizens to the institutions that shape their lives. He lives in Huntington Station, ran for Nassau County Legislature in 2015, served as a Field Organizer for the New York State Democratic Committee, and currently serves as an elected Election District Leader on the Suffolk County Democratic Committee — the kind of door-to-door, block-by-block work that made him decide to run for Town Board rather than wait for someone else to do it.
Rather than wait for someone else to build the infrastructure of accountable government, Dan built it himself: CivicSphere, a civic technology platform offering legislative tracking, campaign finance dashboards, and tools to contact representatives; American Civic Power, a nonprofit dedicated to civic education and good governance; and Civestor Advocacy, a lobbying organization fighting for ranked-choice voting and government transparency in Albany.
He is the author of Civestor: Reclaiming Your Power as an Active Citizen, which coined the Civestor framework — the idea that active citizenship is itself a form of investment in the health of a democracy — and the 12 Points of Good Governance, a nonpartisan standard for evaluating government at every level, including the one closest to home: Huntington Town Hall.
